THE CASE FOR MAINTAINING ABSTINENCE EDUCATION

The President’s budget for Fiscal Year 2010 would eliminate abstinence education funding. The Obama Administration has instead requested the creation of yet another comprehensive sex education program, the “Teen Pregnancy Prevention” program. The House of Representatives has included this request in their annual appropriations bill that is now moving through Congress.  CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL REPORT.

WHAT ARE EDUCATORS SAYING…

about our trainings…

  • “I learned a lot of new things that I can use in future interactions with youth.”
  • “…presentation was excellent!”
  • “…input into the activities…how to present and how to apply was great”
  • “Excellent program – all of it was worth my time.”
  • “I am at the point where I feel the need for a new passion – you have given me that.”

about what they find happening after they implement the material with students…

  • After teaching the unit on STDs to classes of juniors in high school, one teacher had three junior girls come to her separately to visit with her about specific questions or issues that they had.  In each case, they all three mentioned how important that STD information was to them and how they felt that it needed to be taught earlier.
  • “…now students from last year are coming to me and asking questions.”

about supplemental material provided by MSC…

  • After receiving a video about A.C. Green, one educator said, “Thank you so much for sending that!  Since the kids didn’t know who A.C. Green was, this will be the perfect thing to show in class tomorrow.”
  • “I just wanted to thank…the Make a Sound Choice organization for providing me with the training to be able to share this information with students.  It is awesome to be able to talk to them about things that they are dealing with, even though it is sad that they are dealing with these issues.”
  • “Make a Sound Choice is SO willing to share resources (tapes, books, curricula).  It is so wonderful to have these new up-to-date resources at our fingertips.”

QUOTE

“In the final analysis, the issue of cohabitation comes down to a conflict between adult desire and children’s needs………marriage has not changed in its importance for children….and there is no other institution in sight that could successfully replace it.”

- David Popenoe (The National Marriage Project, www.marriage.rutgers.edu)
