EVENTS
Make a Sound Choice (MSC) is dedicated to providing accurate and up-to-date information to youth, parents, educators, invested adults and the community concerning positive healthy decision making. One of the ways we accomplish this is by hosting events for students, parents, educators and the community.
In the past several years, MSC has hosted an annual Youth In Action (YIA) Leadership Training for students. Hundreds of area students attended these events in Fargo and in Bismarck in 2009 and 2010. If funding allows, we will continue to plan these exciting events in the future. Check our website (or our page on Facebook) frequently to check on YIA status.
We will also continue to offer annual training opportunities for educators, counselors and school nurses, as funding allows. Training opportunities are generally offered in June or August. Beginning in 2011, we combined our two annual training events (i.e. New Educator Training and Booster Training) into one great training for all interested adults. Each year, experts will provide sessions that touch on issues that are impacting students today…issues like: media literacy, pornography awareness, sexually transmitted diseases, learning styles, bullying and more. We will no longer provide structured training in use of a specific risk-avoidance curriculum at on-site trainings. This framework allows us to reduce costs, while continuing to expose participants to excellent information.
For parents we offer two different presentations: 1) “Shaping Your Child’s Sexual Character, ” which is geared towards parents of young children and 2) “Talking to Your Kids About Saving Sex,” which is geared towards parents of adolescent and teenage children. During these presentations the speakers will cover the following topics:
- Who should talk to my children about sex?
- Why is this so important for me to talk about?
- When is the best time to have these conversations?
- What information do I need to know in advance?
- How do I have these conversations?
