2011 Educator Training

Make a Sound Choice hosted its  annual educator training on June 9-10, 2011.  The training included national speakers:  Dan Bailey, Freda McKissic Bush, M.D., and Kim Dernovsek, M.D…as well as Central Cass School teacher, Lisa Narum.  Nearly 60 attendees were present…teachers, counselors, state legislators, staff from state agencies, and more!

Topics during the training included:

  • The Teen Brain & Sex:  A Look at the Psychological and Emotional Impact
  • Making the Case for Abstinence
  • HIV/AIDS Crisis:  Strategizing for Success
  • The Community Connection:  Helping Teens Navigate the Minefield of Risk Behaviors
  • Creating a Bully-Free Zone in Your School

With the recent passage of North Dakota House Bill 1229,  many school districts are looking for guidance, support and resources as they work to include abstinence education as part of their districts’ sexual health instruction.  Make a Sound Choice is here to help as the regional expert in character-based risk-avoidance education.

Here is what attendees had to say after two days of training:

  • “The information strengthened my belief that youth ARE capable of making good choices for their lives and I have more evidence to show people that don’t believe they do.”
  • “Incredible, practical information and ideas as well as new resources.”
  • “…the brain pieces were phenomenal!”
  • “Very well organized.  Keep up the good work!!!’
